Ok, like it or not here’s the first gear review. For those of you who subscribed to email updates to either entice me to visit you or to satisfy your voyeuristic tendency you might want to unsubscribe til the next trip…I won’t feel bad…. well maybe a little…sniff..sniff..

Ok on to the review…. you can tell from the picture that I’m gonna talk about what I call the “ass interface”

Today I missed one thing about the trip: my ldcomfort underwear. I swear, that’s the truth.

I’m not being paid by them, I’m not a secret company shill, these things are truly well designed, well made, and they work.

I rode one day early on with my Aerostitch riding shorts, those were the ones I used on a ten day Baja Mexico/ Africa Twin adventure ( pre blog days). And they just are not that comfy after a while. You would think that those shorts with the padding in the ” right” places would be better, but it’s not so. I think it’s because eventually the padding has to stop, which creates a seam, a transition, which causes pressure eventually, which you notice, and notice, and notice and eventually that’s all you can think of and then you stop riding and do something else. End of long ride.

With the LDs you don’t have padding, you don’t have seams, nothing bothers you, assuming you have a good seat and you’re not wearing pants with pockets and other stuff in the wrong places. ( I’m not suggesting you need to get all Fulsom Street Fair just well designed MC pants.)

And the LDs fabric is some magic moisture wicking thing… beats me how that works but they kept me comfortable from 111 degrees in the desert, to 46 on that last days run, to 90s Florida humid stuff. They worked great.

Zero monkey butt. ( If you know what that is then I’m sorry for you)

And you can wash them in the sink and they really are dry the next day. I brought 2 pairs with me and other than that one day with the ‘stitch shorts and the one non ride day in SF, that’s all I wore. For 16 days!

They aren’t cheap, so remember my bday people, you know what I want.

You can find them at www.ldcomfort.com

I found them on the Ironbutt Association’s website so there ya go, they aren’t a secret if those guys know.

And, yes,  that is a photo of me wearing them. Took it with my camera phone, good right?

And….Start.

Then I’m hitting it.

Challenge number 1: when my ass hits the saddle I will not get off the bike until I am outside of the long state Florida. Can I do it?

Not leaving till the morning.

Big Boxes & Tight Shorts

15 09 2011

I struggled with the photo to upload with this post… but decided in the end to use the box picture instead of the alternative.

Two deliveries arrived today. Part one.. the boxes in the photo… my panniers!  And the hardware fears were realized. Missing. A quick phone call to Rick, one more credit card swipe to cover the next day shipping and hopefully the problem is solved. But enough about the boxes.. I’ll put up a picture when the panniers are mounted.. and then stop talking about them hopefully. This is turning into a gear blog.. which was not the idea. Getting on the road might help cure that problem.

Part two : two pairs of LDComfort riding shorts. RW thought the L stood for Little while KB thought it stood for Large. (Nice to know there’s a difference of opinion) But in reality it stands for Long Distance. Google them . Tried them on, I think they are gonna work great. Now you understand the photo dilemma?

Who thinks I should have used the other picture?

Time for break in service

Just shy of the 600 mile mark..gonna let Bill at Riva Motor Sports do the job…. he just started the job… hopefully I’ll have nothing but good news when he’s done. ( Capt. John did warn me away from Riva…. but the idea of riding down to Hialeah???? Nope… I’ll try em out instead.)

Down to the wire now almost…only 5 days left to prep … hopefully those Jessie boxes get here in time….( anybody know the emoticon for fingers crossed?)

Just ordered some sweet boxes from: Jesse Luggage Systems

http://www.jesseluggage.com/yamaha.html

Their dealer told me they put the factory Yamaha boxes inside!! the 11.5″ Safari model. That’s alot of stuff I can haul.

The other little tidbit I took from that…. Yamaha made the factory boxes!!!!…. and the crash bars, and the skid plate,… and all the other stuff that my (now ex) dealer told me they had “no idea” when they would see…yeah right… just another thing that they didn’t order I’m sure….I blame the same punk a** sales “manager.”

So now I gotta find somewhere else to do the 600 mile break in service… cause I’m not spending any more money with those jokers…. anybody recommend a Yamaha dealer in south Florida? ( That isn’t Broward Motorsports that is)

Also… anyone interested in a set of soft saddlebags from RiderWear? Nothing wrong with them they just didn’t fit the Tenere all that well… let me know via comment… I’m gonna return them otherwise.
