Day8

Yesterday went from Vegas thru Death Valley, thru Yosemite (where I forgot that you need reservations way in advance to camp) to a town called Grove Land where you don’t need reservations.

Here are some pics, I’m sure I have some stories but it will take coffee to find those.

And on the 7th day…

Greetings from my shabby motel room in the bad part of town.

Starting on my second bottle of magic desert juice.

There will be no blogging tomorrow..there will be riding but I will do it in radio silence… I’m not telling where I’m going..cause I don’t know.

Here’s a quote:
“We were having it rough, which is exactly what we expected and what we signed up for. That is the thing: having it rough. The man who had it roughest is the man most admired. Conversely, he who has had it the easiest is the least praiseworthy.” –Robert Leckie Helmet For My Pillow.

Very different kind of helmet BTW.

We’ll catch up on Day 8.

So I did a few miles off-road..

In the Mojave.
We did
dirt
gravel
sand

And I must say that the bike and the tires are way better than I am an off-road rider.

I forgot about the squirrelly front wheel feeling…

But after I bit I loosened up.. trust it trust it.

When your street instincts tell you to slow down your dirt instinct is probably the opposite…keep going and just push thru…especially with these K60 scouts…they make me want to get better.. “you make me wanna be a better man” (who said that?) training class or something..

Ok enough..its hot out here in the desert .

Durn deer

19 09 2011

image

Spent the last fifty miles dodging deer, both alive and dead. Luckily I didn’t turn any from one state to the other (in either direction)

So I gave up, guess I’m a boy after all. If this Rick Perry schmuck can’t even control the deer population……

I was thinking of buying a billboard in the middle of Texas somewhere and putting up this message: Dear Texas, please keep your governors to yourselves, we’ve had enough.

So it’s hammock time at the rest stop, doesn’t look like I’ll get rousted from this place, I’m under a picnic enclosure which is good if it rains but the light overhead is kinda annoying.

Nite nite kids.

One more question: why does everybody talk so weird? How about they start teaching diction in public school? In just a few years we could get rid of this silly southern accent… come on people… just talk normal…(you know ivory tower east coast elitist style..like on TV) stop with the ya’lls and the reckons, sheesh. Sorry but you sound dumb

End rant

Now it’s separating time.

After 300 miles or so of steady rain, I find myself 200 miles short  (192.1 miles to be exact) of the thousand miles for an ironbutt.

What will he do? Try this on for size:

Ténéré
